The iPhone 14 (base) launched in 2022 with the A15 Bionic chip from the previous generation, a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display (60 Hz, no ProMotion), dual 12 MP cameras, Crash Detection, and a Lightning port. Three years on, this is one of the most common iPhones we see at our Kerobokan workshop — popular with tourists and budget-conscious expats.
Lightning port corrosion. Three years of daily plug-unplug cycles plus Bali coastal salt air degrades the Lightning contacts. Symptoms start with slow charging, then "accessory not supported" errors, then total failure. Coastal residents in Berawa, Sanur, and Echo Beach see this earlier than visitors.
Battery aging at 3 years. The 3279 mAh battery in the 14 base shows visible degradation after 3 years of Bali heat. Most units we see now are at 76–84% health. iOS throttles CPU below 80% — the phone feels slower than it should because the chip is being held back to protect the cell.
A15 Bionic thermal performance. The 5 nm A15 from the iPhone 13 generation handles heat better than the newer A16/A17/A18 Pro chips, so thermal throttling is less of an issue. Still, sustained 4K recording in 33°C+ shade will throttle within 12–15 minutes.
Diagonal camera bump damage. The dual-camera diagonal layout protrudes from the back — drops on edges can crack the sapphire lens covers. Often the lens cover alone can be replaced without swapping the camera module.
Pool and ocean exposure. IP68 (6 m, 30 min in fresh water) doesn't cover pool chlorine or salt water. The 14 base uses the redesigned removable back glass, which actually makes water damage repair easier than older Lightning iPhones.
A Sydney backpacker on a 6-week Bali trip noticed her 14 phone would die by 1 PM despite careful use. Diagnosis showed battery health at 76% and aggressive iOS throttling. We installed a fresh OEM-grade cell, ran the calibration cycle, battery health reset to 100%. Done in 45 minutes — back to a full day of GPS, photos, and WhatsApp messaging.
A Berlin-based developer working from Ubud could no longer charge his 14 reliably — error messages, intermittent connection. Diagnosis showed corroded Lightning pins from a year of coastal humidity exposure. A Denpasar university student dropped her 14 from a parked motorbike onto concrete. The 6.1-inch OLED was cracked diagonally but touch worked. We replaced the display assembly using the redesigned 14-series repair process (much easier than 13-series — Apple actually changed the internal layout to simplify screen swaps). Done in under 90 minutes.
The iPhone 14 has a redesigned internal layout with a removable back glass — significantly simpler than the 13 series. We use 80°C controlled heat to separate the bonded display, prep the OEM replacement parts in parallel.
Battery swap takes 30 minutes (the most common 14 base repair). Display replacement runs 1–1.5 hours (faster than older models thanks to the redesign). Lightning port is 1–2 hours. Camera modules are 1–2 hours. Board-level micro-soldering for liquid damage is 1–3 days.
Every repair ends with a calibration pass: True Tone colour balance, FaceID dot projector alignment, OIS verification, and a 30-minute load test on the new battery. Crash Detection sensors are tested. Gaskets re-seated for IP68 splash resistance.
Most impactful repair on a 14 base in 2026. iOS stops throttling once the new battery is installed — the A15 Bionic can finally run at full speed again. 45 minutes, fraction of an upgrade cost.

Often the sapphire lens cover alone can be replaced without swapping the full camera module. We diagnose first — if only the cover is damaged, much cheaper repair.
On a 3-year-old base model, combined repair cost approaches 70–80% of a used 14 base market price. Refurbished 14 or upgrade to 15 is the better value here.
For the iPhone 14 (base) we work exclusively with OEM-grade parts — same-spec components manufactured in the same facilities as the originals, often by the same suppliers Apple uses, but sold through the parallel-import channel rather than Apple's own service network.
What that means in practice: displays are Super Retina XDR OLED panels matching the original 1200-nit HDR peak brightness with ΔE 1.5 colour calibration. Batteries are factory-fresh cells with the same chemistry and battery management chip — iOS reports 100% health on first boot. Camera modules come pre-aligned with final calibration on our optical bench. We never install refurbished batteries or aftermarket cells — even on budget repairs, the safety risk isn't worth saving 100,000 IDR.
